Meet the Chef

Topple; a native of Portsmouth, England, graduated from the culinary school of Highbury College before immigrating to the United States in 1999. He worked for the iconic English TV Chef Brian Turner and spent time in the kitchen of the Michelin-rated Cameron House in Scotland. Since coming to America, Topple has worked at a diverse range of storied and prestigious restaurant properties including the Lake Placid Lodge in New York, the Wilcox Inn in South Carolina, Wolfgang Puck’s Postrio in San Francisco, and the Lodge at Sea Island in Georgia. Most recently, Topple was the executive chef at Beano’s Cabin in Beaver Creek, Colorado, also at the famous Sonnenalp Hotel in Vail, Colorado, and most recently he changed and gave direction to the Shore Lodge, with multiple restaurants in the beautiful resort town of McCall, Idaho.

“I am so thrilled to be here, I look at the amazing surroundings, mountains, rivers, forests and am amazed, I am inspired to work with local flavors and ingredients, I love using items that don’t take forever to get here, keeping down the carbon footprint. And also paying respect to those flavors, my true goal is to keep adding to the awards Game Creek has been recognized for and to keep making it a great culinary destination."

Topple will respect and enhance the award-winning legacy of exquisite cuisine at its fine dining establishment. In the winter, guests of Game Creek Club and Restaurant, Vail, CO, are whisked up and over the snow covered slopes to the restaurant; it’s a gondola ride up the mountain from the Lionshead Village, then a transfer to a snow cat (a 12-passenger enclosed snow cat)—all this before they get to enjoy the acclaimed cuisine provided by executive chef Steven Topple and his staff at this, one of Vail Mountain’s premier Signature Clubs and fine dining venues. Open during the summer and winter; the location is closed during the spring and fall.
